Technology has enabled a dramatic increase in interconnectivity and sharing of new ideas. Yet this increased communication and online engagement has also brought about new and difficult tests to Fourth Amendment protections. In a post-Paris world policymakers must find the correct balance of protecting national security, while also respecting our rights to privacy.
On Tuesday, we were pleased to present a conversation with U.S. Rep. Will Hurd, R-Texas, moderated by reporter Nancy Scola of Politico, to discuss this difficult-but-essential balance. As a former Central Intelligence Agency officer who has taken to the House floor in support of surveillance reform, Rep. Hurd is uniquely situated to share his perspective on questions of encryption, privacy and surveillance.
